Slash’s Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony
As all of you guys probably know by now, Slash got a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame just this summer. The ceremony was a bit different from the other ceremonies I’ve been to, one, because there were so many people and majority were wearing black (rock on baby!), and two, because there was a free concert inside the Hard Rock Cafe after the induction (rock on again, baby!).
Being a self confessed Guns N’ Roses addict, this was not just another event to me. This was THE event! Gn’R has played a major part in my life. I looked up to these guys ever since I was a very young boy and I even did a report on my English class about them in college. The Sweet Child O’ Mine intro was one of the very first riffs I tried to play on the guitar (I play it, you hum the bass line!). I have their 1992 Tokyo concert on DVD that I kept watching (have you noticed they kept running and running and didn’t get tired?! Are they athletes or something?!). I tried to emulate Axl Rose‘s moves when we did our gigs (awful, just awful!). I also have all their songs on my iPod and I never get tired listening to them again and again, especially because Gn’R is my workout music. Welcome to The Jungle is ALWAYS the first thing to play as soon as my feet step on the treadmill. I don’t think there’s anybody in this world who would not get pumped up to that song! Then it goes to It’s So Easy to Night Rain to Outta Get Me to Mr. Brownstone andcso on and ooh yeah I feel it baby I feel it!!! So if there’s anything I could thank them for personally, it will be for providing me my workout enthusiasm!
If you have followed the Gn’R drama then you’re aware about the feud among Axl and Slash and the rest of the band. It’s a long story but to make it simple, wherever there’s a Slash there’s no Axl, and wherever there’s an Axl there’s no Slash. This was a Slash event, so you knew who’s not coming. Somebody with an even bigger ego than Axl was present though, none other than the one with the Adonis DNA, Mr. Tiger Blood himself, Charlie Sheen!
Here’s his hilarious speech:
“You know it’s quite fitting, I think, that Slash is getting a star on the very street that Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on.” -Charlie Sheen
That’s epic. Charlie Sheen rocks!
Slash’s speech was a little more on the emotional side, I think he was trying very hard to keep his tears from flowing the whole time.
Here’s a clip from EyeBiteTV:
Other guest speakers were producer Robert Evans and DJ Jim Ladd. It was amazing to see my idol on that podium. It was also an amazing moment to see Guns N’ Roses, well, at least part of it, together for the first time in person.
Somebody’s really really excited!!! And it so happens to be Charlie!
Of course that picture wouldn’t be complete without the finger.
The star ceremony might have ended there but the event was in no way finished! Live acoustic concert coming up!
I did not bring my DSLR camera for this event, all photos above were taken by my point and shoot cam. It turned out to be a smart idea because if I have brought it then I wouldn’t have been allowed inside!
Slash performed an acoustic set with the man he’s currently collaborating with, Myles Kennedy. He’s the former vocalist of Alter Bridge (they used to be called, uhm, what’s that again, “Creed“, then he replaced Scott Stapp, remember?). He’s also more known to the wrestling world as the guy who sang Edge’s theme song.
They performed new songs like “Back to Cali” and old hits such as “Fall To Pieces” (from Slash’s Velvet Revolver days) and the eternal “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Steven Adler even made a special appearance in the middle of a performance asking the crowd to clap altogether to the beat, and the hell we did!
This was yet another day I’ll never forget. To Axl Rose, I don’t know if and when you’ll have a star of your own, but I will see you too someday. And I will fanboy like crazy. Coz I’m f**king crazy. Crazy! Congratulations to Slash for receiving the 2,473rd Walk of Fame Star!
Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D Premiere & Concert
One of the most unforgettable celebrity events I’ve been to. I went to Hollywood on June 26, 2012 knowing that there was going to be a red carpet premiere for this movie. I’ve been to several premieres before so I knew pretty much what to expect. I knew I was going to see Katy Perry this day and perhaps some celebrity guests. When I got there, I was so surprised that there was a huge stage right by Hollywood & Highland. Oh yes! There’s going to be a CONCERT! But is it going to be free? Oh yes it is!!! Now I’m sure this event was promoted several days before, I was just too naive to know but then I guess being unaware has its advantages: you get more surprises!
I met with my friends and we decided to go straight to where the stage was so we can find the best spot. The moment we got there, we got another big surprise: Katy Perry was already there on the stage rehearsing!
We were really near the stage so we saw her up close. They were rehearsing for the whole set they’ll be doing that night so that was a long exposure for her. I even got to roam around and take videos and photos from different angles.
That was a lot of fun! Usually, you get to see celebrities only for a really short time and they’re always on the go but this time, I was the one on the go and Katy stayed where she was the whole time. I guess I can say I developed a love for watching rehearsals. Maybe concert promoters should offer fans free entrance to rehearsals every now and then. That is an event in itself! I remember watching an NBA All Star practice and we paid somewhere around $50/ticket for that, all they did was run and practice lay ups. Not a single soul complained.
At this point I can totally go home. I’ve actually already seen who I wanted to see for this day! But then that would be silly. Of course I’ll wait for the real thing!
The setup here was a bit different from the other premieres. The arrivals were still going to be held at Grauman’s Theater but the concert was in front of the H&H Center. That means fans have a choice whether to be on the arrivals area and see some more celebrities like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, etc. or to be on the stage area where they can watch the free concert.
I’ve seen lots of celebrity entrances before, I chose the free concert. That doesn’t happen everyday! And besides, the spot we had wasn’t that bad since the cars passed right by us.
Here are some of the dancers upon arrival.
It was weird because I was just seeing them on stage rehearsing a while ago, and now they look like they just got here!
Oh by the way, this wasn’t really a red carpet premiere but a pink carpet premiere. I didn’t have a picture of the carpet because like I said I was on the concert area but just imagine you’re seeing a pink carpet. There. You’re still well informed haha.
Fast forward to the concert…
And she came out of a popcorn box!
Sure is the best way to pop out for a pop star! By popping out of a popcorn box! Okay I’ll stop talking now. Enjoy the concert!!! Concert photos, that is.
It was amazing! She sang her best hits including “I Kissed A Girl”, “Wide Awake”, “California Girls”, “Fireworks”, and of course, “Part of Me” which was also the title of the movie she’s promoting.
And now that I’ve pumped you up with the pictures, I now have a surprise for you: Here’s the full video!!! Go get some popcorn and set your loudspeakers on!
Please don’t forget to watch Katy Perry: Part of Me. Now available on DVD.
