Slash’s Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony

Slash Walk of Fame Induction

As all of you guys probably know by now, Slash got a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame just this summer. The ceremony was a bit different from the other ceremonies I’ve been to, one, because there were so many people and majority were wearing black (rock on baby!), and two, because there was a free concert inside the Hard Rock Cafe after the induction (rock on again, baby!).

Being a self confessed Guns N’ Roses addict, this was not just another event to me. This was THE event! Gn’R has played a major part in my life. I looked up to these guys ever since I was a very young boy and I even did a report on my English class about them in college. The Sweet Child O’ Mine intro was one of the very first riffs I tried to play on the guitar (I play it, you hum the bass line!). I have their 1992 Tokyo concert on DVD that I kept watching (have you noticed they kept running and running and didn’t get tired?! Are they athletes or something?!). I tried to emulate Axl Rose‘s moves when we did our gigs (awful, just awful!). I also have all their songs on my iPod and I never get tired listening to them again and again, especially because Gn’R is my workout music. Welcome to The Jungle is ALWAYS the first thing to play as soon as my feet step on the treadmill. I don’t think there’s anybody in this world who would not get pumped up to that song! Then it goes to It’s So Easy to Night Rain to Outta Get Me to Mr. Brownstone  andcso on and ooh yeah I feel it baby I feel it!!! So if there’s anything I could thank them for personally, it will be for providing me my workout enthusiasm!

If you have followed the Gn’R drama then you’re aware about the feud among Axl and Slash and the rest of the band. It’s a long story but to make it simple, wherever there’s a Slash there’s no Axl, and wherever there’s an Axl there’s no Slash. This was a Slash event, so you knew who’s not coming. Somebody with an even bigger ego than Axl was present though, none other than the one with the Adonis DNA, Mr. Tiger Blood himself, Charlie Sheen!

Here’s his hilarious speech:

“You know it’s quite fitting, I think, that Slash is getting a star on the very street that Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on.” -Charlie Sheen

That’s epic. Charlie Sheen rocks!

Slash’s speech was a little more on the emotional side, I think he was trying very hard to keep his tears from flowing the whole time.

Here’s a clip from EyeBiteTV:

Other guest speakers were producer Robert Evans and DJ Jim Ladd. It was amazing to see my idol on that podium. It was also an amazing moment to see Guns N’ Roses, well, at least part of it, together for the first time in person.

Somebody’s really really excited!!! And it so happens to be Charlie!

Of course that picture wouldn’t be complete without the finger.

The star ceremony might have ended there but the event was in no way finished! Live acoustic concert coming up!

I did not bring my DSLR camera for this event, all photos above were taken by my point and shoot cam. It turned out to be a smart idea because if I have brought it then I wouldn’t have been allowed inside!

Slash performed an acoustic set with the man he’s currently collaborating with, Myles Kennedy. He’s the former vocalist of Alter Bridge (they used to be called, uhm, what’s that again, “Creed“, then he replaced Scott Stapp, remember?). He’s also more known to the wrestling world as the guy who sang Edge’s theme song.

They performed new songs like “Back to Cali” and old hits such as “Fall To Pieces” (from Slash’s Velvet Revolver days) and the eternal “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Steven Adler even made a special appearance in the middle of a performance asking the crowd to clap altogether to the beat, and the hell we did!

This was yet another day I’ll never forget. To Axl Rose, I don’t know if and when you’ll have a star of your own, but I will see you too someday.  And I will fanboy like crazy. Coz I’m f**king crazy. Crazy! Congratulations to Slash for receiving the 2,473rd Walk of Fame Star!
