I finally met Her Royal Highness Queen Helen Mirren last Thursday! I know I know she’s not the real queen but there certainly was a royal feel to her presence. Like you hear trumpets playing in your ears as she walks. And British soldiers marching. And the gates of the castle opening. I think I’m hallucinating, I should get help. Having played the role of three different queens in her career, it’s not unusual for people to associate her name to the role of Her Majesty.
It was a glorious day in Hollywood as we witnessed her name immortalized on the Walk of Fame. She has won 4 BAFTAs, 3 Golden Globes, an Academy Award, 4 Emmy Awards, and 2 Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Awards (thank you Wikipedia!). With those achievements, one can say that this ceremony should have been done ages ago!
As usual, the event was packed.
Here are the list of wonderful peeps who never fail to deliver us the freshest news all the time. *clap clap*
Nope. I’m not one of those guys who deliver the freshest news. My blog is three days late. I doubt if anyone will ever get to read this. Ha.
The ceremony started with Leron Gubler introducing Dame Helen Mirren.
Guest speakers were film director/producer John Turtletaub (National Treasure: Book of Secrets)…
…who at one point mistakenly referred to her as Helen Hunt…
…and author/playwright/producer/screenwriter/director David Mamet.
She was given a certificate from the city of LA and the ceremonial loaf of bread.
I’m sure you’ve noticed by now how cool her purse was.
Here’s her speech courtesy of telegraphtv:
The Majestic Pose, ladies and gentlemen.
And the Royal Kiss with husband Taylor Hackford (director of Devil’s Advocate, current president of the Directors Guild of America)
Dame Helen Mirren gets star number 2,488. For those of you who would like to see her star, it’s right in front of Pig ‘N Whistle Restaurant at 6714 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028.
And before I go, here’s my picture with the queen *play trumpets*
The basketball world has been waiting for this for a very long time and at last, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s statue was unveiled on November 16, 2012 at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. I was lucky to be one of the witnesses of this historic moment in sports history. I didn’t see him play as I was not born yet during his prime and I was only three years old when he retired but I’ve always known about his legacy. Basketball is the most popular sport in my country, the Philippines, and his name is known by everyone from the old timers who have been fans since the short shorts era to the young ones who are just learning about basketball. Connected to his name, of course, is the word “skyhook,” a move he popularized (and mastered) that was greatly imitated by professional and amateur hoopsters alike.
Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA‘s all time leading scorer and has won numerous championship and MVP awards but not only that, he’s also popular in the showbiz world as he has appeared in various movies and TV shows. My most favorite is Airplane! and of course, who would forget about this scene with Bruce Lee in The Game of Death…
Now here are the photos from the event:
NBA Legends started to arrive and the one that made me jump for joy was this man:
Errrvviiinnnggg!!! Could there be any better time to relive the moments and see this man fly once again? Watch with me!
Then there’s UCLA alumnus and Two-time NBA Champion, Bill Walton.
Other guests were Kurt Rambis, A.C. Green, Michael Cooper, Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, Bill Sharman, and Louis Gossett, Jr.
But it will never be complete without the Lakers‘ legendary fan, Jack Nicholson.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR!!!
President of AEG, which owns the LA Kings, LA Galaxy, and part of the LA Lakers, Tim Leiweke.
Current President of the Miami Heat and Former Coach of the Showtime Lakers, regarded as one of the greatest coaches of all time, Pat Riley.
Human rights activist, Dr. Richard Lapchick.
Broadcaster Eddie Doucette, the man who coined the term, “skyhook.”
The NBA Logo himself, Mr. Clutch, Jerry West!
“Big Game James”, James Worthy.
Last but not the least, winner of 5 NBA titles, all won with Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson!
NBA Commisioner David Stern, Former US President Bill Clinton and Kareem’s son, Amir sent recorded videos as well to congratulate him.
Let’s unveil the statue!
Kareem himself was the one who pulled cord…
“I’m glad we got here before the pigeons got to it,” he said in his speech. Of course he said a lot more stuff but that’s the most important part of it. I think. Nah. He thanked his parents, his UCLA Coach John Wooden, his teammates, his fans and other special people in his life. He also apologized for the things he said before against the Los Angeles Lakers organization for not erecting his statue sooner.
The event wrapped up with all the NBA legends being asked to step up the stage and take group photos. The media then swarmed him for interviews. At 7’2″, no matter how many people were surrounding him, you can still see him! The night didn’t end there for the fans as the Lakers went on to battle the Phoenix Suns later where they won 114-102.
Congratulations, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!
Congratulations to Señor Javier Bardem for receiving the 2,484th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! We have an international cast for this induction ceremony: We have Mr. Bardem who is from Spain; director of Skyfall and guest speaker Sam Mendes is from England; then the two new Bond Girls in attendance are Berenice Marlohe from France and Naomie Harris from England. I was kinda hoping to see Javier’s wife and fellow Spaniard, Penelope Cruz as well but it was said that she was busy filming during this event. One more person I wanted to see: Daniel Craig! It’s a long shot but hey, they’re promoting Skyfall at the same time so who knows?
The first one to arrive was Skyfall Director, Sam Mendes. He went on to sign some autograph for the fans.
And then there was Naomie Harris.
Her face looked familiar even if I’ve never seen or heard about her before. Then I realized she was Tia Dalma from Pirates of the Caribbean, one of my favorite movies of all time! Wow, I’m an idiot haha. She sure looked different without the dreadlocks and the black lips!
Berenice Marlohe then came at the same time as Javier Bardem. I gotta say, this new Bond Girl stole the show! She was so GORGEOUS in person! I think I’m in love!
It’s funny because I saw some photographers taking more pictures of her than Javier Bardem. It’s like, “Ah I already got my shot of him, I’ll now focus on the things that interest me.”
And in this photo, all she did was hold on to that post and smile and voila! An instant high fashion shoot for the photographers!
The ceremony started and Sam Mendes took the stage. Part of the speech was about Javier dyeing his hair blonde for the new Bond movie, then entering the set and nobody recognizing him. I checked the trailer again today, he does look different! I think I dig the darker hair though. What do you think?
The guys then shared a big hug.
Javier Bardem Time!
Here’s his speech courtesy of Hollwood Walk of Fame:
The star was unveiled and then photo op galore again!
Haha look at that. Sam Mendes looks like he’s saying “oooh yeah I’m touching Naomie’s tummy!”
At this point I just badly wanted to have a picture with the super beautiful Berenice Marlohe. I was worried I wasn’t going to get one because she was on the other side but then she got closer and closer until she was on our side! Woohoo! Some stupid guy from the press with his iPad kept blocking my sight of her (for Christ’s sake, please don’t shoot with your iPad when you got people behind you!) but then when I called her she did respond and I finally got a picture with her!
She asked me if my camera was working because it didn’t flash. I said, “hmm let me see…” then I checked the LCD and yup it worked just fine and I showed it to her. We smiled together. Aww. We shared a moment. An even bigger story is that our faces were literally five inches away while we were exchanging words. In my fantasy we were already French kissing haha. I wish it happened in real life!
She got back to me after some time and we had another photo. This time, I had my flash on.
One photo means it’s a photo op, two photos means we’re close. Now we’re close. I’ll call her Berber from now on.
And finally, the man of the hour went to my side and there ya go, a new movie poster for 007:
For those of you who would like to visit Javier Bardem‘s star, it’s located at 6834 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028, right in front of the El Capitan Theatre.
John Cusack got his Hollywood Walk of Fame Star on the 24th of April, 2012. He is star number 2,469. This is a super late post so I’ll just try to recall all the things that happened that day through these pictures haha.
Lots of people attended as usual. Always the case with Hollywood A-Listers. John was promoting a new movie called The Raven (where he plays Edgar Allan Poe) during that time and so one of the guests in this star ceremony was a raven. Cool, isn’t it? It wasn’t billed as a guest speaker though, maybe it was a bit shy. The guest speakers that were announced were his sister, Joan Cusack and his close friend Jack Black. I would’ve attended here even if there are no other famous stars as long as I see John, but what a big bonus it was to see Po from Kung Fu Panda and Jessie from Toy Story!
I love Jack Black’s look on this one. He actually had that facial expression the whole time. Badass Jack haha.
Joan Cusack was really nice, just looked a bit older in person. I’m sorry Joan! It’s just a bit! Like a few months. Seriously! She’s a really really good actress though!
It’s sometimes nice to have a guest list that doesn’t reveal everything for there’s the element of surprise in it. For this instance, I was lucky to see Billy Bob Thornton! He just appeared out of nowhere!
Maybe his name was actually written on the guest speakers list and I just didn’t see it, but that doesn’t matter. The surprise made a bigger impact.
Dan Aykroyd also appeared out of nowhere! Maybe there were ghosts present and he had to do some ghost busting?
John finally stepped on the stage and gave his speech. I didn’t really get to listen that much. I kept saying to myself, “gosh, this man is so good looking. Why don’t I look like him?”
He was then given the certificate by the City of Los Angeles declaring this day As John Cusack Day in Hollywood.
Congratulations to John Cusack on having his name immortalized on the streets of Hollywood! For those of you who would like to see his star, it’s located right in front of Larry Edmund’s Bookshop on 644 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90028.
As all of you guys probably know by now, Slash got a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame just this summer. The ceremony was a bit different from the other ceremonies I’ve been to, one, because there were so many people and majority were wearing black (rock on baby!), and two, because there was a free concert inside the Hard Rock Cafe after the induction (rock on again, baby!).
Being a self confessed Guns N’ Roses addict, this was not just another event to me. This was THE event! Gn’R has played a major part in my life. I looked up to these guys ever since I was a very young boy and I even did a report on my English class about them in college. The Sweet Child O’ Mine intro was one of the very first riffs I tried to play on the guitar (I play it, you hum the bass line!). I have their 1992 Tokyo concert on DVD that I kept watching (have you noticed they kept running and running and didn’t get tired?! Are they athletes or something?!). I tried to emulate Axl Rose‘s moves when we did our gigs (awful, just awful!). I also have all their songs on my iPod and I never get tired listening to them again and again, especially because Gn’R is my workout music. Welcome to The Jungle is ALWAYS the first thing to play as soon as my feet step on the treadmill. I don’t think there’s anybody in this world who would not get pumped up to that song! Then it goes to It’s So Easy to Night Rain to Outta Get Me to Mr. Brownstone andcso on and ooh yeah I feel it baby I feel it!!! So if there’s anything I could thank them for personally, it will be for providing me my workout enthusiasm!
If you have followed the Gn’R drama then you’re aware about the feud among Axl and Slash and the rest of the band. It’s a long story but to make it simple, wherever there’s a Slash there’s no Axl, and wherever there’s an Axl there’s no Slash. This was a Slash event, so you knew who’s not coming. Somebody with an even bigger ego than Axl was present though, none other than the one with the Adonis DNA, Mr. Tiger Blood himself, Charlie Sheen!
Here’s his hilarious speech:
“You know it’s quite fitting, I think, that Slash is getting a star on the very street that Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on.” -Charlie Sheen
That’s epic. Charlie Sheen rocks!
Slash’s speech was a little more on the emotional side, I think he was trying very hard to keep his tears from flowing the whole time.
Here’s a clip from EyeBiteTV:
Other guest speakers were producer Robert Evans and DJ Jim Ladd. It was amazing to see my idol on that podium. It was also an amazing moment to see Guns N’ Roses, well, at least part of it, together for the first time in person.
Somebody’s really really excited!!! And it so happens to be Charlie!
Of course that picture wouldn’t be complete without the finger.
The star ceremony might have ended there but the event was in no way finished! Live acoustic concert coming up!
I did not bring my DSLR camera for this event, all photos above were taken by my point and shoot cam. It turned out to be a smart idea because if I have brought it then I wouldn’t have been allowed inside!
Slash performed an acoustic set with the man he’s currently collaborating with, Myles Kennedy. He’s the former vocalist of Alter Bridge (they used to be called, uhm, what’s that again, “Creed“, then he replaced Scott Stapp, remember?). He’s also more known to the wrestling world as the guy who sang Edge’s theme song.
They performed new songs like “Back to Cali” and old hits such as “Fall To Pieces” (from Slash’s Velvet Revolver days) and the eternal “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Steven Adler even made a special appearance in the middle of a performance asking the crowd to clap altogether to the beat, and the hell we did!
This was yet another day I’ll never forget. To Axl Rose, I don’t know if and when you’ll have a star of your own, but I will see you too someday. And I will fanboy like crazy. Coz I’m f**king crazy. Crazy! Congratulations to Slash for receiving the 2,473rd Walk of Fame Star!
2nd Star Ceremony this week. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Walk of Fame Star girl Anna Martinez sure has been busy. Congratulations to Gale Anne Hurd for getting the 2,483rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! My last post was about the Induction Ceremony for NCIS star Mark Harmon and for that event, I didn’t expect to see much celebrities but then I was surprised the whole NCIS cast and crew were there! This time, it’s the same story. I knew James Cameron and Andrew Lincoln were gonna be the guest speakers but I didn’t expect the whole cast of The Walking Dead would be here. Surprises are always amazing! Here now are the photos from the event.
First to arrive, Emmy Award winning Make Up Artist, Greg Nicotero
Now here are the rest of the attendees. The Walking Dead fans, scream when you see your favorite, okay?!
Dale Horvath, Jeffrey DeMunn
Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus
T-Dog, IronE Singleton
That’s a pretty cool name, isn’t it? IronE. Like it’s an irony. Or a combination of Iron and Vitamin E. I guess if you get an overdose of that, the side effect is that you’ll always be angry while signing autographs.
Michonne, Danai Gurira
Maggie Green, Lauren Cohan
Andrea, Laurie Holden
Now let’s combine the two, Lauren Cohan & Laurie Holden
Now keep saying Lauren Cohan Laurie Holden Lauren Cohan Laurie Holden Lauren Cohan Laurie Holden…
Merle Dixon, Michael Rooker
Lori Grimes, the lovely Sarah Wayne Callies
And now let’s welcome our Walk of Fame Inductee, best known for her works as film producer of Aliens, Dante’s Peak, Armageddon, The Punisher, The Incredible Hulk, and of course, The Walking Dead, also as a screenwriter/producer for The Terminator Series, here’s Gale Anne Hurd!
You’ve got to love those earrings and necklace! Nothing can get more fit for the occasion!
The first speaker is Rick Grimes, Andrew Lincoln
What’s that? You wanted a close up? Okay…
Gale is given this certificate by the City of Los Angeles, presented by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce CEO Mr. Leron Gubler declaring October 3, 2012 the Gale Anne Hurd Day in Hollywood
Now it’s time for her to give her speech
For the complete speech, here’s the video from The Hollywood Walk of Fame
And finally the star is unveiled
Look at that. Not only her jewlries match the event, even her shoes and her nails! This woman is amazing!
Here are the cast congratulating her…
And of course it wouldn’t be complete without the cast photo
Such a lovely day. Even lovelier because they interact with the fans after the ceremony
I even got to take a photo with Laurie Holden! Lucky me!
Except I didn’t realize my camera was on zoom when I took it! All that’s left of me are my fingers and the edge of my hat and forehead. Ugh. I guess you can disregard the word “lucky” above. But then again, at least it’s my face that got cut off. I would really be disappointed if all I saw there was my own face haha.
Then as I was about to go home, I looked down and ahhhh!!!
Someone left her legs!!!
Haha, well looks like one of those legs got an autograph. Nice.
Congratulations to Ellen Degeneres for receiving the 2,477th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last September 4, 2012! Here are some pictures from the event
Jimmy Kimmel. All smiles upon his arrival, so happy to be the guest speaker for his dear friend and fellow talk show host
Also a guest speaker, Ryan Seacrest takes some time off from his busy working schedule for the special Walk of Fame inductee.
And here she is! Look at that big smile!
Family, friends, fans, and the media are all gathered here to witness this once in a lifetime moment
Jimmy Kimmel giving his speech
Next is Mr. Seacrest, here he is as he gives a kiss to Ellen
And now, the Hollywood Star of the Day!
